ArtLab

Attached to the EPFL College of Humanities (CdH), Artlab presents temporary and long-term exhibitions that bring the world of science and the Humanities closer together. It also houses a Montreux Jazz Café in which it is possible to consult the festival’s audio-visual archives. Opened in the fall of 2016, the building was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.

The 3 pavilions of the building

DataSquare

Located in the northern part of the ArtLab building, open to the Esplanade, the Datasquare presents a long-term exhibition on the theme of big data.

Central Pavilion

This space, the most spacious in the building, hosts temporary exhibitions that showcase, through technology, a scientific, artistic, historical and cultural heritage.

Montreux Jazz Café and Festival Archives

Located in the southern part of the building, on the lake side, this space is dedicated to the enhancement of the Montreux Jazz Festival archives, which are registered in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

Data-driven app brings 'voice of the visitor' to museum experiences

Published:17.09.20 — EPFL’s Laboratory for Experimental Museology (eM+), led by Sarah Kenderdine, has received support from Engagement Migros to produce muse, a pioneering audience evaluation app, in collaboration with over 20 Swiss museums. The tool provides visitors with an engaging way to communicate their experiences, while helping museums to consider this feedback when developing exhibits and other attractions.

ArtLab to host four nights of open-air cinema

Published:11.09.20 — Following a time of cultural scarcity, ArtLab is celebrating the start of the new academic year with GIFF PLUG x EPFL ARTLAB: an open-air cinema at the heart of the EPFL campus. Four evenings of screenings under the stars will be presented, with a customized program prepared by the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF). These screenings are free and open to all, but registration is required.

A photographic exhibition captures ‘Hope' at ArtLab
